Song:
The song I feel defines me most is Love by Musiq Soulchild. In this song he is saying how because of love he looks at things differently. In the beginning he says there is so many things he has to say but is afraid to because he might be seen differently. This first verse especially spoke to me because I often hide how I feel because of what others might say; but as he goes on to say in the next verses I know that even though I can’t see love or hope I still know that it’s there; I always have that last glimmering piece of hope. Love not just with a boyfriend but with family and friends can be related to this song and with what I go through on a daily basis. It is one of my favorite songs and now I think it is because I can relate to it so well and it defines who I am.

This piece is called “Our Reality is Distorted.” This piece by Henrietta Harris defines me because our reality is distorted between what is real and what we think is real. I feel this defines me because people may think one thing about me when first meeting me. For example, many people think I am a shy person because I am very quiet when first meeting people. This is a distorted because although I am a shy person, I am very friendly and outgoing, and adventurous. Most people however, only see the surface and/or a distorted view of who I am.
Poem
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.

I feel this poem defines me because I am always waiting for things to happen. Sometimes I am too afraid to go out and do things on my own without others behind me so I’m always just waiting. This poem makes me want to make myself get out there instead of always waiting for everything else to happen, but it is often harder than it looks. When people sit and wait for things to happen instead of going out and doing their own thing, it makes them wish that they had went out themselves in the first place.
